Staying Healthy with Diabetes

Diabetes meal planning is one of the helpful ways to lessen your senior’s symptoms. It is a guide on what foods to eat and how much your body can acquire through meals and snack times. It must be done by a well-planned schedule to fit your parent’s eating habits. This includes the plate method, carb counting and glycemic index.
1.      The plate method is a way to create balanced meals for allowances to your carbs and calories. It has to be 9-inch plate with a side of fruit, fat-free milk, lean protein, and vegetables.
2.      Carbohydrate counting is a technique on how to maintain or monitor the blood glucose level. It should be accompanied by physical activity and proper medication. The range will be 45-60 grams of carbohydrates for a start of your parent’s meal.
3.      The glycemic index is a measurement of carbohydrate-containing foods and their effect on blood sugar. It is a fairly new way of analyzing foods or proper diet. It is not as simple as checking the carbohydrates but also the impact in our body and blood sugar.

The right plan will help your senior loved one improve blood glucose levels and blood pressure as well. Check cholesterol and to assess your father or mother’s weight if he or she needs to lose or gain some weight. Most of the time, people who suffer from diabetes should consult a physician and monitor their health through prescribed medication and consuming foods which are best suitable for their health. It takes just a little effort and extra care to avoid some foods which may cause or trigger any possible adverse spikes in blood sugar.

Healthy diet includes the following: vegetables, fruits, whole grains, poultry, beans, fish, and low-fat dairy products. By eating this way, your senior will live a better life even if they have diabetes.
